How to Manage SEO on Your Website
What SEO is and why it matters
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It's how you tell search engines like Google what your website and products are about, so the right customers can find you.
Every page and product on your site has a title and description that search engines read to decide when and where to show it in results. Good SEO doesn't guarantee a top ranking, but it gives you a much better shot at showing up for the searches that matter most to your business, like a specific product name, a category you sell, or your business name and location.
A few minutes spent filling these fields out thoughtfully can bring in more visitors who are already looking for what you offer, without paying for every click.
Your website's SEO can be edited in a few different places, depending on whether you want to update a single product, a specific page, or your site-wide settings. Here's how to find each one.
Steps
- To edit SEO for an individual product, go to Inventory and search for the product you want to update. Open the item, then go to the Sales Channels section and click into your website page details. From there, you can edit the page title and meta description for that specific product.
- To edit SEO on other pages of your site, like your homepage or About page, go to Online, then Build and Manage Site, then Pages and Content Blocks. Select the page you want to edit (for example, Home or About), scroll down, and you'll find the SEO fields for that page. From here, you can also update the URL slug the page ends in.
- You can also edit SEO at the product group level. Go to Online, then Define Products, then Product Groups. Choose any product group you'd like to update, and click Search Engine Listing Preview. From there, you can edit the title and meta description for that entire group.
- To manage your site-wide SEO settings, go to Online, then Build and Manage Site, then Site Title and Analytics. Here you can update your website's overall title and meta description, and enable your sitemap. These are all helpful tools for improving how your site is indexed and found by search engines.
- Beyond these settings, keeping up with blog posts is one of the best ongoing habits for SEO. Regularly publishing content gives search engines more to index and gives customers more reasons to land on your site. Running Google Ads alongside this can also help drive additional traffic while your organic SEO builds over time.
