Zebra Barcode Configuration for Mac OSX

Zebra barcode printers do not install directly to Mac operating systems. A third party print driver called CUPS must be used.

The CUPS driver is usually installed automatically when using the Add Printer function. Installation instructions can be found here: Installing CUPS driver on Mac OSX

Once the CUPS driver is installed, the document settings must be configured. This is done within the CUPS web interface, which must be enabled prior to use.

  1. Enable the CUPS web interface
    • Open Terminal and enter the following command:
      • cupsctl WebInterface=yes
  2. Access the web interface:
  3. Select your printer from the list by clicking its name.

  4. Adjust the default size setting to 2.5x1 inches
    1. select Maintenance / Set Default Options.
    2. Change your default width and height
    3. Click SAVE (you may need to enter the system administrator's credentials, which are the same as your computer's username/password).

For best quality settings, you should set the printer speed to 2, and darkness to a minimum of 15. Settings can be accessed in the CUPS driver by following these directions from Zebra: https://support.zebra.com/cpws/docs/cups/cups_driver1_4_configure.pdf
